What about shipping costs?

If you sell products online on your website, you need to make sure you have chosen the right shipping costs. After all, shipping costs can still determine whether the customer buys your products or interrupts their sales process and goes shopping at your competitor who has better shipping costs. If your products are €3.00 cheaper than your competitor’s, but if his shipping is free and with you the customer still has to pay €5.00, your customers will still choose the competitor.

Because even though your product is cheaper, the customer will end up cheaper if he purchases his desired products from your competitor.
In short, your shipping costs can determine whether the customer will still choose to buy your products instead of your competitor’s.

How do I set the correct shipping costs?

  1. Log in to your website
  2. Go to WooCommerce
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Go to the ‘Shipping’ or ‘Shipping Methods’ tab
  5. Click on ‘add shipping method’
  6. Choose the desired shipping methods for the countries you have indicated
For example, you can set that all deliveries in Belgium are free and those in the Netherlands are not.
Or you can choose a flat rate per shipment or free shipping from a minimum amount of goods purchased.
  7. Click ‘Update’ to save your changes

There are 3 options of shipping methods in WooCommerce. First, you can choose fixed rate. At a minimum, you should offer this to your customers. By choosing flat rate, your customers must pay a flat rate per shipment to have their order delivered to them.

The next two ways are optional. You may choose whether to offer them to your customers. So you can choose free shipping or pickup. If you want to offer your customers free shipping, it is usually from a certain amount of products purchased. For example from when your customer wants to buy products worth €50.00 or more in total, shipping is free. Therefore, if you choose pickup, your customers will order products that will not be delivered to them. So they don’t have to pay a delivery fee for this either, but they do have to pick up their products at the store or warehouse location. You can check these three options in the “Shipping” or “Shipping Methods” tab.
